81 New Hotels Launched in Portugal in 2018

81 new hotels began the licensing process in 2018, three less than in 2017. A total of 256 hotels entered the process in the years between 2015 and 2018, according to Confidencial Imobiliário. Of those, the Metropolitan areas of Lisbon and Porto accounted for 35% and 25%, respectively, while the Centre saw 15%, the North 13%, the Algarve 7% and the Alentejo 5%. 16% of the hotels that started licensing last year have between five and ten thousand square meters of space, while 75% were below five thousand.
