66 New Hotels Will Open in Portugal Next Year

The data were revealed by the Portuguese Hotel Association. More than half of the new establishments will be in Lisbon and Porto.

There will be an unending stream of new hotels opening in 2018, according to the Association of Hospitality of Portugal (AHP). The organisation is forecasting the inauguration of 66 new establishments, as reported by the tourism newspaper Presstur. More than half will be in Portugal’s two principal cities: Lisbon and Porto.

Of the total of 66 new hotels expected for the next year, 29 are in the Lisbon area – and 24 are in the city itself. 14 will open in the region of Porto, ten in town. The remaining hotels will be in the centre (nine), the Algarve (four), Alentejo (two) and Madeira (eight).

But that’s not all. According to AHP, six hotels will be refurbished in Lisbon, six in Porto, three in the Algarve, two in Madeira and one in the Centre. No new openings or renovations are expected in the  Azores.
