Turismo de Portugal provided incentives of more than 1.2 million euros to support three tourism-based projects in the Alentejo.

The Valorizar Program awarded 1.2 million euros in incentives to support the development of three tourism-based projects in the Alentejo, Turismo de Portugal announced. The support was formalised on Monday, in a trip to the region by the Secretary of State for Tourism, Ana Mendes Godinho.

“This is the way to extend tourism to the whole territory and throughout the year, increasingly using tourism as a tool to mobilise the country,” the Secretary said in a statement.

The annual calendar of events of the Alentejo and Ribatejo Regional Tourism Entity, the Herdade da Contenda Integrated Development Plan in Moura and the expansion of the Wi-Fi network to 14 municipalities are among the supported projects, the tourism authority noted.

Having received funding worth 228,000 euros, Contenda Natur – Herdade da Contenda, in Moura, plans to develop new services to boost nature tourism. The plans include the installation of interpretive routes in the estate, improvements to access and the creation of a visitors’ welcome centre.

In turn, Alentejo@Central Tourism, which covers 14 municipalities, aims to provide free Wi-Fi access in historic centres. 300,000 euros were made available for the project, within the framework of the Provision of Wi-Fi Networks Support Line.

Included in the calendar of events are the Lusitana Route-Alter do Chão Contest, the World Animation Festival in Portalegre, the Santarém National Gastronomy Festival, the SB20 Alqueva Tournament in Moura and the Festival B in Beja, promoted by the Regional Tourism Entity of Alentejo and Ribatejo.

The Valorizar Program aims to support the development of tourism projects that promote the use of lands, properties and endogenous resources of the regions. To date, more than 300 tourism projects have been approved for an investment of more than 70 million euros, supported by EU funds through Portugal 2020.
