Temprano Capital Partners Wins The Class Best Property Innovation and Sustainability Award 2019

Madrid, November 30, 2018.

Temprano was awarded The Class Best Property Innovation and Sustainability Award 2019 for the TSL Marquês de Pombal project at the annual conference of the non-governmental organisation The Class of 2020, which took place in Milan. Temprano was also a finalist, with the same project, in another category – The Class Best New Student Housing Development of the 2019 Year Award.

Temprano Capital Partners received The Class Best Property Innovation and Sustainability Award 2019 from the NGO The Class of 2020 in recognition of Temprano’s commitment to the use of innovation to provide a better experience for people using the premises of TSL Marquês de Pombal.

The TSL Collegiate Marquês de Pombal is a 330-bed complex located in the heart of Lisbon, which opened its doors to students in January 2018, after major renovations and remodelling the building. The property once housed the headquarters of CTT, the Portuguese postal company, but in recent years it had remained empty, before being acquired by its new owner in 2016.

The Class of 2020 says that “The Class Property Innovation and Sustainability Award is an award that aims to recognise new student residences whose concepts go beyond the boundary of what we commonly imagine to be “living.” The award aims to highlight innovation in the sector, from new intelligent construction techniques to a building’s long-term sustainability, and social sustainability among its users.”

A member of the jury, Erica Sjölin, head of member services and relations at Studentbostadtsföretagen commented: “At TSL Marquês de Pombal, the project development/design teams are involved in the project and engaged in a process of co-creation as they stayed in the residences themselves. This attitude, matched with questionnaires and other methods of collecting feedback, created a good basis for user-oriented design and sustainability. They also have a clear relationship with the users, helping to promote social solidarity between the institution and the surrounding neighbourhood.”

Temprano Capital Partners was also nominated and a named as a finalist in another category through the TSL Marquês de Pombal project: The Class Best New Student Housing Development of the Year 2019.

Jonathan Holloway, a project development manager at Temprano Capital Partners, commented: “We are very happy and proud of the recognition brought by an award of such importance, especially since TSL Marquês de Pombal is Temprano’s first project in the student housing sector. A special mention and thanks to José Quintela, Temprano’s design director and the architect responsible for the project, whose vision allowed us to transform an outdated building from the 1970s into the student residence we have today. Thanks also to our partner and investor CESH/W.P. Carey, who joined us from the beginning and who, with us, developed a program for developing 3000 beds throughout the Iberian Peninsula; and all our partners who joined us on this adventure.”

The Best in Class Awards were selected by an independent jury of experts from The Class of 2020:

– Paloma Lisboa, head of Student Accommodations at King’s College London

– João Pinto, president of the Erasmus Student Network

– Charlotte Steedman, founder of Conductor

– Samuel Vetrak, CEO of Student Marketing

– Erica Sjölin, head of member services and relations for Studentbostadtsföretagen
