Public Works Market Returns to Growth

22 December 2017

In November, tenders for public works rebounded after a significant drop in the previous month, totalling €233 million, up by €122 million over October.

According to AICCOPN’s Public Works Barometer, the recovery is due to the launch of the public tender for the construction of drainage tunnels in the city of Lisbon, at a base price of 106 million euros.

In accumulated terms, tendered public works contracts up to November showed a year-on-year increase of 78%, amounting to 2.654 billion euros.

The total volume of contracts entered into in November was only €94 million, once again well below the average for the year of €144 million. The total number of contracts entered into and reported since the beginning of the year stood at 1.729 billion euros, a 39% increase year-on-year.

The contracts awarded in the framework of public tenders accounted for €989 million, an increase of 50% year-on-year. It should be noted that this figure is 2.7 times lower than the total number of launched public tenders, increasing the gap between the announced public works contracts and the conclusion of contracts to 1.7 billion euros in the year.
