More Contracts for Public Works but Fewer Tenders

Tenders for public works fell by 24% in the first five months of the year.

New tenders for public works tenders have fallen for five consecutive months and up to May, registered a decrease of 24% compared to the same period in 2017, AICCOPN – Association of Industrial Civil Construction and Public Works, reported today in its barometer.

According to AICCOPN, tenders for public works contracts worth €955 million were held from January to May, compared with €1.252 billion in 2017.

On the other hand, the number of contracts awarded in such public tenders is increasing, adding up to 571 million euros until May, which represents a jump of 25% over the same period last year,

An increase in the conclusion of contracts for road maintenance, by Infraestruturas de Portugal, to be carried out up to 2020, worth 91 million euros, helped increase the number of awarded contracts, AICCOPN noted.

Direct adjustment and prior consultation contracts added up to 237 million euros, 10% below the amount in 2017.

The total volume of contracts signed and registered at the Observatory of Public Works up to May 2018 stood at 854 million euros, reflecting a growth of 11% over 2017.
