Construction Continues Growth in Portugal

Last November, production in construction increased by 2.6% compared to the same period in 2016 and employment and remuneration increased by 2.5% and 3.8%, respectively.

According to data released today by the National Statistics Institute (INE), the Civil Engineering segment contributed 1.9 percentage points (pp) to the aggregate variation, growing by 4.8% (4.9% in the previous month).

The Building Construction Index increased by the same amount as in the previous month (1.2%) and accounted for 0.7 pp of the total.

INE also noted that the employment rate in the construction sector registered a year-on-year change of 2.5% (2.8% in October). Compared to the previous month, the employment rate had a rate of change of 0.6% (0.9% in November 2016).

In November 2017, the remunerated remuneration index registered a year-on-year rate of change of 3.8% (4.1% in October). Compared with the previous month, the remuneration index increased 17.3% in November (17.6% in the same month of 2016), reflecting the usual Christmas bonus payment.
