Rome, agreement on Piazza dei Navigatori. Green light to a new 10-storey building

16 March, La Repubblica

The Colombo skyline will radically change with the new ten-storey building that will be built in Piazza dei Navigatori. In the exchange of the promised public works for 30 million euro that were never implemented and that now will be reviewed and paid, there will be new constructions. The City Council has approved the plan of a pool of companies together with Confcommercio. In the meanwhile, in Via Monte del Gallo, not far away from San Pietro, another house from the Thirties will be torn down, replaced by a modern residential building. Let’s start from Piazza dei Navigatori. The trustee in bankruptcy of the company Aqua Marcia that signed the agreement with Federici and Igliori Spa, a company of the group Mezzaroma, has sold the existing glass building. As a result, those 30 million license fees for works on viability and public services never carried out have re-emerged, despite the construction of the building just in front of Colombo and of a hotel nearby. Now the threat of a giant building of 10 storeys, despite the inclusion in the plan of a public park.

“Now this wound for the city will be closed”, the Mayor Raggi and the City Councillor for urban planning stated: “We’ll get the assets and avoid a litigation”. Protests have started guided by Andrea Catarci, Massimo Miglio and the green party represented by Bonessio and Calcerano, talking about “a huge gift to defaulting entrepreneurs”.

Amedeo Chiaccheri comments: “This is purely political arrogance”. Finally, another historical house will be torn down, this time in Via Monte del Gallo 49, to build a bigger building. Bordoni protests, promoting an investigation on the city administration. The City Councillor Nathalie Naim said: “There are 561 requests in Rome for demolishing and reconstructing. We must stop this madness”.
