Crif: mortgage applications decreased in January

09 February, Milano Finanza

The mortgage market reported a weak start of the year. According to Crif, which surveyed the market in January based on the data registered by its credit information system, 2019 started with a reduction of new mortgage applications and subrogations, reporting a 6.4% reduction compared to January 2018.  The performance reported in the first month of the year continues the negative trend of 2018 (-0.6%) due to the decrease in the number of refinancings. Average loaned amounts had grown by 1.9% and set at 128,124 euro, counterbalancing the negative performance. Concerning distribution, in January large part of the requested amounts concentrated between 100,001 and 150 thousand euro, representing 29.1% of the total. Requested amounts below 75 thousand euro, which generally refer to refinancings, were equal to 25.6% of the total.
