Turin: sold the Snos gallery

06 April, La Stampa

The new lightning lights up the gallery, while the technicians take the measurements for the renovation works and families and elderly people walk watching the shops. This seems the right time for the Snos shopping centre, after several announcements for a relaunch, something is finally moving in the gallery in Corso Mortara. Even security guards are back, after some months of absence.

The recent changes are related to the purchase of the shopping gallery by the real estate agency Savigliano Srl from Monza, which spent last December 106 thousand euro to acquire the business. The property was previously owned by Mortara Due from Padua, which managed to avoid the bankruptcy thanks to an agreement among creditors. The new owner hasn’t disclosed yet its plans for the future of the gallery, explaining that the details of the investment will be presented in May at the Mapic in Milan, the event dedicated to commercial real estate. For the time being, Savigliano Srl has kept the existing businesses, but the company would like to diversify the offer adding street food, deli shops and restaurants, as well as spaces dedicated to wellness.

In the meanwhile, all the businesses present in the shopping centre believe in a relaunch: “We’re impatient to start again, and just seeing the lights on is encouraging – says Christian Sina, the store director for the retail chain Il Gigante – It’s just the matter to reopen part of the shops for this shopping centre to change face”. The many shops that closed down impacted negatively the shopping centre: the last shop to close was the 31st of the forty shops in total, namely the optician Avanzi that closed this year, while the pizzeria and bar Anthony closed in December 2017. Only nine shops have survived, thanks to their loyal customers: “We’ve resisted quite well, even beating the nearby competition – says proudly Marco, the owner of the fashion shop One’s Ease: – we’re waiting impatiently for the relaunch promised by the end of the year”. The lightning and the security have encouraged people to pass by: “We already see more people sitting at the tables – says Valentino Boido, the owner of the bar Torrefazione Caffè – we hope that this is only the beginning of a new life for the gallery”. But there is still someone who will be leaving the shopping centre, like Unieuro, which will move a few metres away, between Piazza Baldissera and Corso Vigevano: “It’s a matter of months – explains the store director Teresa Taverniti – we plan to move by this summer”. Unlike the clothing wholesaler Cvg: “We’ve seen the plans and we’re happy with them – explains the owner – we’ll stay here and we’ll relaunch our brand”.
