Student housing and urban transformation

12 December, Il Sole 24 Ore

The demand for hotels continues growing in Rome. With 9.8 million arrivals, the city is the first Italian touristic destination. As a result, hospitality has significantly changed: the offer for luxury and five-star hotels has increased, while the number of one- or two-star hotels has decreased. Investments in hotels have gone from 8% of the total in 2006-2012 to 21% in 2013-2019, to the point that Rome alone attracts 33% of the investments in hotels in Italy.

The arrival of new hotel chains contributed to expanding the offer and channelling new targets. For instance, Soho House in San Lorenzo is aimed at a younger crowd, while Meininger Hotel in Castro Pretorio targets the budget segment. International brands enter the Italian hospitality market not only by requalifying existing hotels but also by reconverting other types of properties, such as offices. One example is the upcoming reconversion of a building in Piazza Augusto Imperatore.
