Milan, the Bocconi tower will open in September

The inauguration is in September and it will be part of the Bocconi University campus. The tower can be admired from its location in Via Castelbarco. It will have 300 residences and it will be probably occupied already by next academic year.

This is the first step of the project signed by the Japanese architects from the studio Sanaa that doesn’t include only residences. In fact, on the 35,756 Sq m surface formerly owned by a milk factory, there will be four buildings for the Sda Bocconi School of Management, a sports and leisure centre (featuring a swimming pool, gyms and a fitness centre), a green area for 17,500 Sq m (13,970 Sq m of which of public park), and an underground garage. The total cost is 130 million euro. The works are expected to be completed by 2019.

The Bocconi campus is not the only development project regarding student residences in Milan. The transfer of the science faculties of Università Statale to Rho, in the former Expo area, will be very soon, and it will radically change the student rental market.

In a city with a high demand for such type of accommodations, there are plenty of initiatives from real estate companies. The latest one is by Hines that promises to bring hundreds of places to students in Via Giovenale, not far from the future Bocconi campus. It will be a new type of accommodation: a student housing inspired by the Anglo-Saxon model. Basically, less private space and more common areas. Hines promises 600 beds in the form of micro living, namely small apartments and room destined to who is spending a short time in the city for study and work reasons. The facility will feature several spaces and services such as common areas, a library, a cinema, a gym and a swimming pool. A model that is very appreciated by young students.

The whole project will be directly managed by Hines through Aparto, a company that currently manages 3,600 beds in the UK and in Ireland and that is implementing at the moment 1,400 new beds in other cities. The works in Via Giovenale will start shortly and are supposed to conclude by the end of 2020. “We’re very happy with the operation just concluded – said Mario Abbadessa, head of Hines Italia – it confirms our focus on student housing and on all the residential alternative assets, where we have noted the biggest gap between offer and demand, in terms of number of accommodations, as well as of quality, sustainability and flexibility. Our objective is to provide solutions to the various needs of students, foreigners and young professionals”.
