Istat, the residential construction costs are rising

In August, the seasonally adjusted index of the production in the building sector registered an increase of 1.8% compared to the previous month, the cost indexes of the sector have increased by 0.2% for the residential segment, +0.4% for roads under tunnels, and +0.6% for roads without tunnels. These are the figures from Istat regarding construction and the related costs.

In the June-August quarter, the seasonally adjusted index has decreased on average by 0.4% compared to the previous quarter.

On a yearly basis, there is a decrease of 1.1% for the production index on construction adjusted according to the calendar and of 1.2% for the gross index. Also on a yearly basis, the cost indexes for the production have increased by 0.7% for the residential segment and for roads under tunnels, and by 1.1% for roads without tunnels.

The main reason for the increase of the construction costs is the rise in the costs of materials that have risen by 0.8 percentage points.

The increase of the construction costs concerning roads is due exclusively to the increase of the cost of materials, for roads under tunnels (+0.9%) as well as for roads without tunnels (+1.3%).
