11 June, Il Sole 24 Ore

There are currently 22 Hilton hotels in Italy, but the company plans to expand in one of the most interesting markets of Europe. “We want to grow faster in Italy – says Alan Mantin, Southern Europe development managing director for Hilton -. Last year we opened five hotels under four different brands, introducing Hampton and Curio Collections”.

The five hotels are DoubleTree by Hilton Turin Lingotto, Hilton on the Como lake, Hampton by Hilton Rome East, Aleph Rome (Curio), La Bagnaia Siena Golf & Spa Resort. “This year, we’ll open new hotels and will inaugurate other five in 2019”, comments the manager. Milan is among the most popular locations for what concerns the luxury segment. The group is currently looking for properties in the city since the project of opening a hotel in Piazza Cordusio in the Fosun building fell through.

Hilton will open in Italy other four hotels in the next 18 months. “The Hilton in Villa Torretta, near Milan, will soon be reconverted into a Curio branded hotel”, Mantin explains. All the rooms will be remodelled with to the investments from the Gdf, Frera group, with whom we’ve already opened the Garden Inn in Milan. At the beginning of 2019, the hotel DoubleTree by Hilton will open in Trieste in the former Ras building, property of Allianz, which will be managed under a franchising agreement by Hnh Hotels & Resorts.

Another collaboration with Hnh will be the DoubleTree hotel in Rome, close to the Colosseum. The old hotel will be restructured and expanded by merging the Reale Mutua building nearby to obtain 132 rooms. The Hilton Campo Mulini in Catania will be completed by the end of 2019, the project is dated back a couple of years ago and was delayed several times.
