Fiumicino inaugurating its new business hotel

05 November, La Repubblica

The Fiumicino airport is launching new investments to consolidate its role of gateway between Asia and America. The company managing the airport will open a new Radisson Blue hotel in the industrial area beside terminal 1. The construction works for the hotel of the Swedish hotel chain will start in the upcoming months, and they’re meant to finish by the second half of 2022. Adr will invest over 30 million euro in the project, including the redevelopment of the depots present on site. The hotel will feature 289 rooms, a restaurant open 24 hours, a bar and a wellness centre. The main highlight will be a business area dedicated to conferences and events in order to promote conference tourism.

The Adr’s objective is to increase passenger traffic. Giovanni Castellucci, Ceo of the Adr subsidiary Atlantia, explains: “Our goal is to support the airlines operating in Fiumicino and to take advantage of the attractivity of a country such as Italy”. Basically, Adr will focus on the services offered. According to a survey by ACI (Airports Council International), in fact, Da Vinci airport ranked in the third quarter of 2018 the first western airport for the quality of its services, like the electronic gates. Fiumicino has become the first airport in the world not only for European passengers but also for people from the US, Canada, South Korea, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. There are in total 36 electronica gates installed in collaboration with Enac, the police and the Ministry of Interiors and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. As a result, Rome has become the gateway between Asia and America. Between January and October 2018, 37.4 million people transited through the Fiumicino and Ciampino airports, having increased by +3.6% from 2017. Not only: in September Fiumicino reached its all-time record of 4.1 million passengers. The growth of the Asiatic market is fundamental for Fiumicino. The traffic has increased by 17% since the beginning of the year. The Central and South American markets are also expanding, especially Brazil and Argentina, having grown by 26%. The US and Canada have increased by 17%, the European destinations outside the EU, Russia and Turkey in particular, have risen by 14%.
