Greek government sees three-month tourism season

The government plans that the hotel units will be gradually opened; the all year-round operating hotels are expected to open in June and the seasonal accommodations are likely to open in July.

According to the Minister of Tourism, the tourist season could start in July, later than usual but timely for the peak periods.

Regarding the tourism and catering sector, the Minister of Development said that the GDP of the Greek economy consists to a large extent of these two sectors and stressed that, although today it is almost impossible to predict for the coming months, his personal assessment is that tourism will get better if things go smoothly, if hotels open in a reasonable amount of time, if there are some flights and if the northern countries have a better results in their fight with the virus. The government will present specific support measures specifically for tourism.

Reportedly, rules will be imposed on the operation of hotels, as well as in places with a high concentration of population.

In the meantime, regulation is expected for accommodation with a large number of rooms: how many people will be allowed in the pools, how the breakfast and lunch buffets will work, what the distances will be on the beaches and on the tourist buses, how many visitors will be allowed in the museums and indoor cultural sites.

In any case, the key decisions are expected for the air transport, the conditions during the flights and the strategy that the airlines will follow. In addition, the security framework in the hotels and, in general, the tourism industry.
