Greek FinMin: The NPLs are still a problem for the economy

The Greek Minister of Finance, Euclid Tsakalotos, commented that the NPLs remain a problem for the Greek economy but the securitization scheme will soon help the banks deal with the problem.

Euclid Tsakalotos said at an interview for the Cypriot newspaper Politis that the Greek Banks no longer dependent on ELA. They meet the targets for NPE / NPLs reductions, have much better corporate governance, and are in a better position to keep meeting their goals. He admitted that NPLs remain a major problem for Greece, and claimed that the Government, the Bank of Greece, and the banks themselves, are taking action to address the problem.

The Greek FinMin also said that the government is planning to establish a public development bank to support the cooperative banks.
