Garcia, Garcia Builds Turnkey Project for Nacex

22 November 2017

Following the reinforcement of its national distribution network, Nacex Portugal, an express transport company belonging to the Spanish multinational Logista, awarded Garcia, Garcia the contract to build its new centre in Greater Porto. The complex, located on over 14,000 sqm of land, will allow the carrier to boost its capabilities in the north of Portugal, in another joint initiative with the consultancy Predibisa.

The conceptual phase and the design of the project took into account the architectural language, which was inspired by one of the functional objectives of the building: mail and parcels. The building’s architecture was designed as mail-order package, seemingly torn open in one of the corners where the administrative and social areas have been installed.

Since the basic idea of the building is that of a compact and robust volume, much like a package, the engineering also stuck to the concept, using a prefabricated structural solution in concrete and with a surface coating on concrete panels. The sides of the building are equipped with 30 loading berths for vans, while two heavy berths were installed on top of the building.

The new unit, located in Água Longa, Santo Tirso, benefits from excellent accessibility and highways. Its privileged location allows fluid and fast access to the main urban centres of Greater Porto, as well as the Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, Leixões Port and other national freight ports, which is a determining factor for a logistics company such as Nacex.

“The technical know-how of Garcia, Garcia in this type of buildings was decisive for the development of Nacex’s new unit. This project will enrich our portfolio of logistical platforms developed in the last years and was a great challenge achieved within a demanding deadline,” Miguel Garcia, administrator of the Portuguese construction company, stated.

João Leite Castro, head of the Industrial Department of Predibisa, added that “after an intense search for the ideal location in terms of accessibility, layout and values between Maia and Santo Tirso, Predibisa contacted Garcia Garcia to propose a turnkey project. This led to the project in Santo Tirso, which takes into account all of the client’s needs.”

This is not the first time the two companies have collaborated. Previously they were responsible for projects for multinationals such as the Eurocast plant in Arcos de Valdevez and the second WEG plant in Portugal (Santo Tirso).
